Warner and Eidos cosy up over Lara Croft

Rumours of a Warner reboot for Tomb Raider movie franchise sparks up talk of merger once more

It has emerged that Warner Bros is planning a brand new movie in the Tomb Raider franchise – leading some to wonder if this is the first move in the long rumoured takeover of Eidos.

Despite Eidos’ recent admission that sales of its most recent Lara Croft title, Tomb Raider: Underworld, were below its expectations, it seems as if Warner Bros believes the English gaming icon still has a bright future ahead of her.

Empire reports that Warner is already planning its reboot to the silver screen Tomb Raider franchise. It apparently plans on “reimagining” many aspects of famed heroine Lara Croft, including her origins, love interest and main villains.

The rumours have reignited the speculation that Warner, which has been investing heavily in its new game operations in the last 12 months, is on the verge of finalising a takeover of Eidos.
