UK games market to overtake Japan in 09

With the Japanese market suffering a significant decline in value in 2008 and the UK enjoying record sales, MCV is predicting that the UK games market will by the end of the year grow to become the second most valuable in the world.

Whilst the Japanese market was worth 520,000 more than the UK in 2008, it declined year-on-year by 15 per cent. In comparison, the UK boomed by 18.5 per cent. If these trends continue ion 2009, the UK will attain an annual video games market value of 4.77bn.

In contrast, Japan is currently on target to achieve a 2009 market value of 3.86bn. Both could pale in comparison to the USA market, however, which could prove to be worth as much as 17.7bn, though it will have to reverse its current rate of decline to do so.
