Resi 5 demo sails past 1m downloads

Success of Capcom’s pre-release demo points to huge retail success for upcoming survival horror title

Microsoft has confirmed that the recently released playable demo for Capcom’s massively hyped survival horror sequel Resident Evil 5 has been downloaded 1.8m times by European and North American gamers.

The demo was first released on January 26th, though was available exclusively to Xbox Live Gold members until January 29th, in which time it saw 1.3m downloads.

A demo on Sony’s PlayStation Network went live yesterday. Japanese Xbox 360 and PS3 owners have been able to access the playable taster since last year.

Resident Evil 5 will be released on both Xbox 360 and PS3 on March 13th in Europe and North America and on March 5th in Japan, where it will be called Biohazard 5.
