GAME rules out Zavvi store acquisitions

Specialist has “no plans” to acquire any of beleaguered retailer’s remaining stores

The GAME Group has told MCV that it has “no plans” to buy any Zavvi stores – as time ticks away on the entertainment firm’s remaining life on the High Street.

As revealed by MCV last week, only 31 Zavvi stores remain across the country – with over 1,000 employees made redundant.

HMV bought 14 Zavvi stores last month, but GAME told MCV that it will not be following suit – despite many market towns losing their main source of games retail with the demise of both Woolworths and Zavvi.

Terry Scicluna, COO for GAME Group UK and Eire said “We have exciting plans to open some new GAME and Gamestation stores this year, but at the moment our plans do not include any former Zavvi stores.”
