Magazine publisher reports increased readership for five video game publications
Future Publishing has posted ABC increases for five of its eleven gaming magazines.
The announcement follows news that Future’s games portfolio suffered a ‘challenging’ fourth quarter, with total revenue up just one per cent to £41 million.
The company's Official PlayStation Magazine saw the largest gains, growing by 16.6 per cent year-on-year to 53,644 copies.
Independent publications PSW increased its readership by 10.5 per cent compared to the same period the year before, while NGamer shifted 4.4 per cent more copies and Xbox World 360 sold 6.1 per cent more issues.
Nintendo Official Magazine held firm, with a readership of 58,795.

However, circulation figures for Future’s PC and multiformat game mags slipped. GamesMasters dropped from 51,389 readers to 40,940, while Edge dropped from 31,304 readers to 28,898. PC Gamer and PC Zone also saw their ABC results slide.
“Future’s games print ABC results outshine men’s lifestyle titles – we do this by delivering more engaged readers committed to their special-interest,” said publishing director of Future’s games portfolio James Binns.
“Future’s strategy of building more touchpoints around our brands is starting to pay off, with growth in web, events, on-console media and mobile activity. We are well set for 2009.”
During 2008, Future also created a buyers guide for Tesco, saw its Gamesradar Network hit ten million unique users a month, and worked with GAME on creating editorial for the retailer’s website.
