Codemasters outlines 2009 lineup

DiRT 2, Operation Flashpoint, FUEL and three Overlord titles all on the way this year

UK publisher Codemasters has lifted the lid on its 2009 software lineup, which shows a heavy emphasis on racing, as well as a new MMO offering and three new instalments to the Overlord series.

Next-gen racer DiRT 2 is spreading its wings onto a number of new formats, with the publisher confirming that it is in development for Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii, DS and PSP. It’s due for release this September in what Codies calls “the most extensive format launch in the 10 million+ selling series’ history”.

Next up is FUEL, a multi-terrain, multi-vehicle game from Asobo Studios featuring locals such as the Utah salt-plains and Grand Canyon that’s out this May on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

FPS Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, described as “the most accessible, engaging and visceral sandbox shooter of the year”, will be out on PC and, for the first time, Xbox 360 and PS3, this summer.

There was also word that developer NetDevil is also hard at work on Codemasters Online’s PC MMO Jumpgate Evolution, a title that promises “exhilarating” space combat.

There was also big news on the Overlord front, with Codemasters’ intention to make a solid franchise out of its brand demonstrated by the confirmation of three new titles – Overlord II on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, Overlord Dark Legend on Wii and Overlord Minions for DS.
