PlayStation Home user base reaches 4m; PS3 sales top 21m and PSP passes 50m mark
Sony has announced that its PlayStation Network now boasts over 20 million registered accounts, successfully establishing it as a “robust network business platform”.
It has taken two years and three months to reach the milestone, and expansion has been accelerating. After one year and two months PSN’s user base stood at five million and by 20 months it had hit ten million. Seven million have been added in the last seven months.
On the hardware front, PS3 sales now total 21.3m worldwide, and PSP sales passed the 50m mark last month.
Some further stats were also announced – over 600 games with online features have now been released for PS3, and PSN itself now hosts over 14,500 pieces of downloadable digital content. To date over 380m pieces of content have been downloaded, with sales reaching $180m.
In addition, having gone live with its beta last December Sony’s PlayStation Home service now boasts four million users.

How many are unique?
I have to wonder how many are unique accounts. During the count down to Little Big Planet, it was not unheard of on amny forums for users to have up to 4 different accounts (1 Japanese, one UK, one US and one Austrailian), I myself have the first 3 to access the better versions of the PS store, since the UK version is less user friendly, and doesn't get as many freebies as the US store.
Re: How many are unique?
"20 million registered accounts"... note, not "20 million users".
Most people I know with a PS3 have 3 accounts, UK, US and JAP, reading the online forums, it seems a lot of US users have the same thing. With any of those accounts, you can access Home in any of those regions, so I would doubt that 4m figure too.
I suspect this is one aspect that will stop Sony from region locking accounts as Microsoft did on the 360. If people are confined to a single user account, their online figures are going to take a huge hit and I don't think Sony can afford a situation where their figures drop.
Re: How many are unique?
I don't think that's alot to be honest...
45m PSP's
20m PS3's
Only 20m accounts (if that)?
PS3 unique
I have 2 accounts UK and US 2 reasons I had bought a game abroad and need to get a free download... and 2 better psn store
