Growing online brand buys the rights to the internet arm of former High Street entertainment retailer

Online retail specialist The Hut has bought up the rights to Zavvi’s online identity and portal, MCV can reveal.

A new holding page on the Zavvi website yesterday promised that ‘exciting’ news was to be revealed at 10am this morning. However, come the hour no announcement was made, but the Zavvi website did reappear – complete with a few new categories such as ‘perfume’ and ‘lingerie’.

The Hut confirmed the news to MCV, though added that it could not make further statements ahead of the official announcement later today.

The Hut runs several high-profile games retail sites online including Asda, CHIPS, SendIt and Tesco. It is also a finalist in the Online Retailer category in the upcoming MCV Industry Excellence Awards 2009.

Great scoop, and hats off to "The Hut"

How will this effect their current white label sites? I imagine they will continue supporting the big contracts like ASDA, but what about the newer small deals with Phones4U and chipsworld?

From a marketing perspective would you want to buy into a brand that failed right in front of the public?
