Microsoft slashes XBL price

12 months membership drops by £5 to £34.99 for a limited time only

Xbox 360 platform holder Microsoft has cut the price of Gold membership to its Xbox Live service in both Europe and North America in what it is describing as a “limited time” deal

The North American price has dropped from $49.99 to $39.99 whilst the UK price has fallen £5 to £34.99, according to CVG.

A Microsoft statement reads: “We are currently running a promotion in-dash that gives Silver members a special opportunity to upgrade to the full benefits of Gold membership at a reduced price for a limited time.”

There’s still no word on how long the offer will be available for.

Gold membership offers numerous advantages compared to free Silver membership, chief amongst them being the ability to play games online against other Xbox Live users.

Microsoft cannot make any big price drop as there are so many members that would have renewed thier membership recently. So they make a special offer of a small drop.

Claim that was a success and then make the offer permenant.

Thier goal is a 29.99 year membership but they have to do it incrementally so as not to upset thier current members.

It's not all that good a deal as there are many online sellers already offering 12 months + 1 gold membership cards for 29.99.

29.99 is Good News, I'm happy to pay less!

A solution to this, though, is to offer a couple of free Arcade games, to anyone who has over, say 10 months on their subscription. Or maybe 1200 Microsoft points.
It wouldnt be the ideal solution, but think of it this way; You pay for something one day, 2 weeks later its in a Sale at 50% off. You haven't saved anything, and its up to the retailer to decide if they give you a 50% refund, you either just miss-out down to getting in their early, or you accept it.

Anyway, Ill be extremely happy if next time I come to renew I'm paying £10 less! (even tho, I actually got it from one of said online retailers!)

Good Times!
