Labour MP Keith Vaz presses government to implement stricter control on sale of mature titles
MP Keith Vaz, an outspoken critic of mature video games, has once again raised the issue in parliament, pressing deputy Labour leader Harriet Harman in yesterday’s Prime Minister’s Questions.
“In a survey published last week, 74 per cent of parents said that they were very concerned about the increasing level of violence in video games,” Vaz stated in the opening question of the session, according to Edge.
“Given the fact that there is increasing availability of these games on the internet exhibiting scenes of graphic and gratuitous violence, when is the government proposing to implement the Bryon Report in full?”
Dr Tanya Byron has previously recommended that all games undergo BBFC certification – a process currently only required for games with known violent content.
The government is still pondering the report’s recommendations.

Vaz ignoring facts...again
What more does Vaz want? Age restrictions are in place, retailers on the whole responsible, what else can be done? Again Vaz fails to recognise that the responsibility of what video games children are playing lies with the parents. .

Not him again
YAWN
This guy really doesn't like our industry much :)
Re: Vaz ignoring facts...again
Would Stella Artois (or the retailer) be blamed if a parent fed its child their beer? I doubt it. Woe betides us though if he then goes and does something whilst drunk having played a video game.
This is a legitimate and already regulated industry Mr Vaz. Please can you find something more constructive to do with your elected mandate.
Re: Re: Vaz ignoring facts...again
I notice Keith is still yet to talk to the games media about his little crusade, lest anyone, y'know, confront him with any facts.
Or is MCV working on rectifying this situation?
