Hi-res version of Government’s ad uploaded for all to see

MCV has uploaded a high-resolution version of the Government’s controversial Change4Life ad – click here to take a look.

If you want to save the ad to your computer, simply right click on it and select ‘save image as’.

Since MCV announced that it had filed an official complaint with the ASA regarding the Government’s Change4Life campaign, a host of other companies have spoken out against the initiative – including Codemasters, Konami, Future, Tiga, Atari and Sega.

Sony has also added that it is considering legal action over the ad. ELSPA has demanded an urgent meeting with the Government to discuss it. The Government, however, told MCV that it stood by the advertisment.

That ad is ridiculous

That kid's not even playing. Maybe it's a cut-scene.

Seriously, though, something does need to be said, it's a foolish ad. Just adding a stack of DVDs, a TV remote, and half a Mars bar would have prevented the anti-game bias. Bravo to MVC and others for standing up.

They missed an opportunity here, kids don't just sit on the floor or on a sofa playing games all day ...

... I mean ... Where's the gaming chair? That's more modern nowadays

Well done for making a stand MVC

The ad is ridiculous or someone made a mistake. Whatever it is, MCV is being pretty unprofessional here.
I don't visit MCV because I like a witch hunt, I visit because I like reading news. Can you guys quit this and go back to what you do best please?

So basically they're lumping gaming in with any other pass -time that tends to involve sitting down. They should therefore run similar ads with a kid holding a book (its difficult to read whilst running or jumping). And Jack, saying this is a witch hunt.. please tell me you're being ironic!

I notice that the kid doesn't have a Wii remote in is hand, also Nintendo haven't commented on this. Did they they pay for the ad?

wow...simply wow...
this ad should be taken off and sent to the garbage. this ad is very stereotypical of gamers its not even funny. i'd like to see their research, tests, undeniable TRUTH that gaming is the worst thing you could be doing at a childs age, which they are also implying that gamers sit near the tv, get fat and never go outside. my assumption is that 5% of britain's gamers are obese. [ no offense to britain gamers here] Me, im personally from the US where we are called a fat peoples nation of imperalist pig idiots who has never seen an ad like this my entire life. I think that the Change4Life movement, the Diabetes association in the uk, the cancer research association of the uk, and the other foundation[ can't read it in the picture] should honestly apologize, say they were wrong in what they posted, and take the ad and throw it in the garbage. Obviously this won't happen, but i hope this would, and anybody who read this comment im hope will agree with me here

It's fact that too many children are obese, its fact that sitting around all day contributes to the problem. Children don't have healthy lifestyles and it needs to change. Maybe it is unfair that computer games have been used as the example, but if parents won't listen then perhaps a shock tactic is needed to get the message across?
