New ‘Sega MegaDrive’ revealed

Blaze's take on home console comes with 15 games; Plays old cartridges from all regions; Due in April

Blaze is to release a ‘new’ version of Sega’s classic Megadrive console, complete with 15 games built in.

According to the hardware’s creator, it will also play all old MegaDrive cartridges from all regions.

The console ‘plugs and play’s into any TV. Play.com lists the item for £37.99, down from £39.99.

The system is due for launch in April and contains built-in games including Alex Kid, Alien Storm, Altered Beast, Arrow Flash, Bonanza Bros., Columns, Crack Down, Decap Attack, E Swat, Fatal Labyrinth, Flicky, Gain Ground, Golden Axe, Shadow Dancer and Sonic And Knuckles.

Blaze made a name for itself last year by releasing a handheld console that played old MegaDrive games.

Its a great idea, whilst the Sega Genesis Collection does cover a fair selection of titles, the ability to be able to play any region carts is a big plus for this hardware.

Hopefully it will have an RGB SCART output as opposed to a standard composite like most of these plug and play efforts.

Time to dust off those carts...

yeah I still have some old mega drive carts hanging around and this hits some of the nostalgia buttons in me but I cannot see any long term plan for this except maybe in a bargain bin or cage in game or Argos etc.

This is such a fantastic idea, i remember sitting around with my friends and brothers playing on my old mega drive for many hours, anything to recreate this is a plus in my eyes, playing ROMS/Emulators or the collection on X-Box 360 just doesn't feel right IMO

Just like comment 1(a slum dog) I believe this to be a fool of the April kind,if not then why? I've got most consoles since '77 and its best to remember the great memories in your head, when faced with 90% of the old Skool it really sucks(like comment guy no1)

These have been out for ages, just not in the UK. I got one from Play-Asia well over a year ago.

I would buy it if it would support some high quality filtering. Playing with the original resolution would look like playing with legos on my 42" lcd.

Well a big point is this..........The console will support 60 Hertz via a switch at the back, therefore you will be able to play your old Megadrive Carts on your new LCD/Plasma TV.

The European Sega machine was 50Hertz only
