Retail losing out on Lost and the Damned

Analyst predicts that online sales of GTA IV expansion have outpaced retail sales by 6:1

Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich has stated that the firm believes that online sales of GTA IV expansion The Lost and the Damned have bettered retail sales by a ratio of six-to-one.

Though Rockstar has not yet released firm sales figures for The Lost and The Damned, Divnich states that online sales of the expansion have now hit $18m, whereas retail sales for the LDC, which come in the form of a coded card, have hit just $3m.

“As we move forward, we expect that 6-to-1 ratio to grow even larger as digitally distributed games don’t have to succumb to retail pressures and loss of shelf space/visibility,” Divnich stated, according to Edge.

Furthermore, EEDAR expects The Lost and the Damned to eventually win $40m worth of sales worldwide, with GTA IV going on to make $800m throughout its lifetime.

Not True

Technically this is not true, this is simply comparing online sales to sales of a specifically pre paid card, how many were paid for using generic 2100 and 4200 points cards, available in retail stores, or from a mixture of points paid by credit card and point cards?
