MCV Awards 09: The winners revealed

EA Sports boss Peter Moore flies in to pick up Grand Prix; Nintendo, Activision, Bethesda, GAME, Sega and more also win big

Over 600 retailers, media, publishers, developers, analysts and distributors jammed into The Brewery in London tonight to see over 40 different companies fight it out for the ultimate recognition from customers, rivals and partners at the MCV Awards 09.

Nintendo was once again the biggest winner on the night, picking up four awards, but EA Sports won the super prestigious Grand Prix. The FIFA 09 publisher’s global president Peter Moore flew to London to collect the prize.

“These trade awards once again celebrated the hard work and creativity that makes the UK such a successful, vibrant and competitive marketplace,” commented Moore.

“To win the MCV Grand Prix is very special. It is a tremendously prestigious trade award that vindicates the effort we have put into EA Sports over the past year and many years prior to that.

“This is one for our team all over the world. We are very proud indeed.”

Coveycom, can you honestly say that either of the other 2 have had a marketting campaign that has rivalled the Wii/DS/DSi campaign, especially on TV? Wiispeak was pushed really hard on TV and in a very clever way. The DSi is already being pushed on TV and I suspect in a month or 2, the Wii Motion Plus will get the same treatment.

Microsofts "Jump In" campaign was good, but I think Nintendo have marketed the Wii and the DS hardware and software brilliantly. I mean, what better way to market a product you want people to "enjoy", than to show people really "enjoying" the product. No other company targetted something as non-game related as Mother's Day for instance, yet Nintendo hit it spot on. The family features have been cleverly marketed with celebrity families.

"Jump In" was just a bit too surreal, a bit like the PS2 marketing. Sony's marketing has been pretty much non-existent on the whole, and a bit tasteless (on occasion) when it has been there.

I really can't see who would have been the alternative had they not won it. Who do you think should have, and more importantly, why?
