UPDATE: Firm picks up title from Atari in shock move; Release date on track for June 19th; 360 version coming ‘later in year'
Sony has negotiated a shock 11th-hour deal to publish the official Ghostbusters game throughout PAL territories in June.
The platform holder is the third publisher the game has had in the last 12 months. The title was previously owned by Vivendi before its merger with Activision, and then by Atari.
A Sony spokesperson told MCV this morning: “We will be releasing the title on June 19th, for PS3 and PS2, to co-incide with the release of the Blu Ray movie from Sony Pictures.” A PSP version will follow from Sony in the Autumn.
MCV has learnt that the title will still arrive on Xbox 360, DS and Wii, published by Atari. A rep from the publisher told MCV these SKUs will arrive "later this year".
UPDATE: “Atari is committed to maximizing the launch of the Ghostbusters videogame across Europe,” said Jim Wilson, VP worldwide marketing at Atari.

thought it was too good to be true!
Really didn't see that one coming but can't help feeling sorry for the staff over at atari - they finally seemed to be turning a corner and then Phil "sony til I die" Harrison goes and turns them back into a laughing stock - can't even manage to hold on to a license to print money like ghostbusters? such a shame.
Wow!
I feel bad for Atari but a very smart move on behalf of Sony. AT the same time I can imaging a lot of extra's are now going to be in the Xbox version but the game is still going to be great.
Thanks Sony
I was really looking forward to playing this on 360!! I think the money you've spent on this would have been better spent on a price drop...
Common Sense
Well to be perfectly honest I'm surprised this game wasn't published as a PS3/PS2 exclusive to start with. It was a classic example of Sony as a company not talking to each other - in recent months they seem to be getting better at working together across divisions to see the 'bigger picture'. It's been seen in other areas too like SOE moving into SCE and publishing MMO games for PS3, Sony Pictures refusal to allow NetFlix to stream their films to the 360, Sony Bravia TV's doing various PS3 related promotions etc etc.
It's interesting that from the outset this game seemed to use the PS3 as the primary platform and if you look back there were quotes by the developers about the cool stuff they could do if they focused on the PS3 version.
It will be interesting to see if the 360 port ever does see the light of day or if it will be slowly delayed into oblivion. I wouldn't be surprised if Atari's focus switched to the separately designed Wii version instead, just like the Indiana Jones game...
After all there's no smoke without fire, you don't just give up on a multiplatform release for a huge franchise like Ghostbusters unless there were problems with doing a multiplatform release...
Seriously, think about it.
This is only in PAL territories, so the 360 port will still be released and it will contain the same content as it would if they'd released it on the 19th.
After all, in North America all versions are still going to be released simultaneously.
And am I the only one psyched about a PSP version?! I'll be able to play Ghostbusters on the go now! (Screw the DS)
Lame attempt at an exclusivity deal
This title was just weeks away from a multi-platform release, but now thanks to Sony, there will presumably be a big fat pile of PAL xbox and Nintendo games languishing in a warehouse somewhere until November. Absolutely ridiculous.
@PS3Owner The 360 version will definitely see the light of day, because it's still being released alongside the PS3 version in the States - it's just PAL regions that lose out
What the heck!
What the hell is sony thinking!!
i live in Sweden and i waited for this game a very long *ucking time now and now i have to wait longer to play it....*uck You SONY!!!
absolute joke
what a joke this is, thank sony, i have cancelled my pre-order for this game, a game like this should be a multi format release, i wonder how many 360/wii owners cancel a preorder because of this??
Complete Morons
wow how much of an idiot are they really I can understand the buying of the rights that does not piss me off in the slits but its the flack that they decide to block the other consoles which could led them to having more money come on Sony dose anyone in there have at least one bran cell
Trust Sony...
I really Wish Sony would Give Blue Ray a Brake If the only outstanding feature on a Console is a DVD format then its not a gaming console its a DVD player. So Y. Y Must Sony insist on making life difficult for every one and try and take what i am hoping is a good game from the actual gaming consoles because of a stupid Format because they wish they had a exclusive you can't just go and say that the PAL regions can't have the game on any other platform then the PS 3 / 2 that a very low market if Atai was smart and kept it multi-platform they would be better off.
God dam it i wish Sony Would Grow Up
