MCV’s prediction rings true as live TV and on-demand content comes to console
As reported by MCV earlier this week, Microsoft has officially announced that it has struck a deal with satellite TV provider Sky that will bring both live and on-demand programming to Xbox 360 owners.
Though there isn’t a concrete channel list available as of yet, the package is set to include both Sky Sports and Sky Movies and will be available through a number of viewing options.
Those not already subscribed to Sky will be able to join via their Xbox and whilst there’s nothing specific regarding subscription at the moment, expect an array of packages – though customers will not be able to access a pay-per-view shows without paying a monthly subscription.
Existing Sky customers will be able to use their accounts to access content via the console. The service will be bolstered by a number of interactive additions, such as sports leader boards and messaging.
“Our customers have told us that they want the opportunity to use their consoles as a way to access TV and once again Xbox has pulled off an entertainment first with amazing content and rich interactive experience,” Xbox UK boss Neil Thompson stated.

“The combination of Sky’s leadership in content creation and aggregation and our own in creating a constantly evolving new generation of rich 360 entertainment experiences means we are one step closer to our goal of offering Xbox owners the best entertainment experiences out there, whether it’s movies, music, games, interactive experiences or high quality TV.”
The service is set to launch this autumn.
