LucasArts president confirms classic IP revamp

E3'09: Exclusive interview details George Lucas studio's new strategy for older franchises

Speaking exclusively with MCV’s sister publication Develop, LucasArts CEO Darrell Rodriguez has set forth the company’s new push for exploiting its back catalogue of IP – confirming the rumoured Monkey Island remake, now titled The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, along the way.

“We’ve put an IP pipeline in the works,” Rodriguez says, “with a team dedicated to creating new IP, and new ways to reinvigorate some of our favourite heritage products, such as the Monkey Island franchise. What the team is doing with that beloved franchise is remarkable, and I can’t wait for fans to get their hands on it.”

“Monkey Island is core to what LucasArts is about – it has a great story, great characters and was innovative for its time. I find it inspirational and I know the team does as well. Our history of innovation and storytelling is something I want to bring to the forefront of LucasArts.”

More from Rodriguez – including the Lucas Group’s synergy on The Clone Wars and the Force Unleashed collaboration between LucasArts and ILM – can be found here.
