PSPgo priced at UK retail

£230 is the going rate; however, GAME, Gamestation and Play’s prices are ‘just a guide’

Sony’s PSPgo has appeared on GAME’s UK websites for £230.

Consumers can now register their interest in the machine at GAME.co.uk, Gamestation.co.uk and Gameplay.co.uk.

However, the High Street chain has told MCV that it is just a “guide price” and could well change before launch.

MCV Award winners Play.com has also listed the machine, but with the retail price of £249.99.

PSPgo was officially unveiled at Sony’s pre-E3 press conference. The machine will launch on October 1st for $249.99 in the US and €249.99 in mainland Europe.

Looks like I'll be importing it then. That is quite a high price point to say it's unlikely to be region locked.

more worried about the trade price retail are given for PSPgo if we only make say £15 on a £230 product and UMD games no longer exist is it really worth stocking this product?

sounds like sony are covering their bases with the screwed up exchange rates. By oct I expect the currencies rates will be different - fingers crossed. Otherwise most people will simply go for the cheapest global price especially as the only difference will be the power cable.

You could import one from the US for £160. Even that is too much.

Disaster

this new console looks good but it also spells disaster. Price point is too high for one, umd less and is download only. they can now only cater to 2 target audiences with this, fanboys and geeks. The DS is going to continue to trump PSP in sales as it is easy to use for everyone and will appeal to a broader audience. While DS has continued to evolve and get better over the years, looks as though the PSP is going backwards.

FAIL. They've got no chance at £230, a little chance at £180 as long as price cut comes reasonably soon after and an OK chance at £150, though personally I wouldn't pay more than about £130. Perhaps that's because I have a launch PSP. Either way this is looking like a rather terrible move.

They're trying to make the money back that they lost on the PS3 I reckon. It's far too much. What is this now, the third PSP in as many years? Nice to know they are now 'working on' a solution to UMDs not working. That'll be even more money. Who dreams up this nonsense?

I agree with all the above comments. If it is indeed confirmed that the price of PSPGo is around £230 I think this will be a missed trick by Sony to push what in my opinion is turning into a very focused and enticing product. The PSP has been around for quite some time now, it should really be around the £150 mark at most... It appears in this case Sony has decided less equals more.
