Microsoft: We won E3

E3’09: Microsoft Games Studio boss Shane Kim adds that Xbox 360 will be around until 2015

It’s not the twinning but the taking part that counts, right? Nope. How you win or lose something like E3 is hard to fathom, but the reaction to Microsoft’s conference was certainly positive – so much so that the Xbox 360 platform holder seems happy to declare victory.

“I think we won,” Microsoft Games Studios boss Shane Kim told Venturebeat. “It's not just me saying that. It's pretty universal.

“We had something very special, starting with the games portfolio. We had a lot of content for a normal E3 briefing. But Project Natal doesn't come along every year, and it is very difficult to match.”

Kim went on to explain that he believes the Xbox 360 can enjoy the same ten-year life-cycle that Sony so proudly touts for its hardware.

“We firmly believe that the Xbox 360 has a life cycle through 2015,” he stated. “Project Natal is a great innovation. It will work with every Xbox 360 sold. It’s not about pushing more pixels on the screen. It’s about how to break down barriers that stop people from playing games.”

Project Natal is not due out until mid 2010. Sony has previously stated its motion technology will be ready for spring.

Well done Shane

why don't Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo work toether to provide us with something different instead of the same ol' sh*t in different packaging.
It may be fun and exciting for them but I'm the one that's stuck with two bloody consoles. But now not only do i feel like an idiot for buying them, I've got to move like an idiot to use them! Please...for some people it is about more pixels. MORE PIXELS PLEASE!

strange how they declare victory for somthing that is well a glorified eye toy (granted the milo thing was kool)

and a games lineup that we all pretty much guessed before E3.

i would say they came 2nd. because sonys games lineup dwarfed microsofts.

even microsofts facebook and twitter stuff isnt really a big deal because PS3 already have a full web browser.... strange.

You really shouldn't bite at comments from MS. Also natal and eyetoy shouldn't be in same sentence. They are very very different. And not to be rude but didn't Sony pretty much leak everything they had? People didn't have to guess sonys LOL, and finally sonys lineup was good, but you notice how a ton of them got no incline of a release?

i cant help the whole eye toy natal comaprrison. its a 3d eye toy. the breakout wall came was a 3D version of an eye toy game. only thing that was kool was milo.

all the games on sony and xboxs lineups got the same release excuses. look out this fall, look out in the spring. look out at somepoint in 2010.

i loved microsofts presentation the only thing that bugs me is the natal thing when there like. this has never been done before... they should have added the words. on this scale. because its been done. just they have advanced it.

but i agree with sonys statement. sometimes you just need a button.

we will see how it goes. im looking forward to seeing how its developed. the milo thing still scare me. you know what the next step is... SKYNET!

ChrisM that made me laugh a lot. Imagine the look on her face when you show her just how much you've been missing her. Anyway, it's all conjecture for me, my wife would kill me if she caught me liaising with my Xbox 360.

i just thought gamers won in general, MS are always taking rubbish, i think arron greenberg is a fool (sony is copying us) and just loves to trash talk all competiton, just get on with your job man, E3 is a conference not a competition, if you won, what did you bloody win ? you prick

i was blown away with the technology but its just a wii with no controller, im not diving around my living room, or getting my mate to send me a new dress to try on, sorry but its another add on for 360 which will be over priced and all they want is Nintendos market share and install base, wii is not even selling software right now !!

Anyone who has but only a vague understanding of how motion capture and/or picture analysis work knows, Project Natal is PURE Sci-Fi at this point, in particular with a single "low def" camera that the installment in households of such a system implies. It was a great marketing announcement (and nice agency clips), but it might backfire heavily on their future communication.

personally i thought Milo was an interesting display of what can be done, but until Mass effect et al has every NPC character with a personallity like that (oh and NOT a freaking 12 year old!) i think it's a waste of time. BTW i already have a nephew, and he'd kick Milo's ass. and if i wanna paint i'll use a canvas. if i wanna talk to children i'll start hanging round playgrounds, the good old fashioned way.
and the controller free interface is going to be a nightmare too, not to mention highly inaccurate (IMO).

I'm equally dubious about the PS3 controller, but when you look at the precision of it when they're f-ing around with that skeleton in the tech demo, i tihnk it'll be more easily accessable, after all, it's a Wiimote with a ping-pong ball on the end, nintendo have already proved it's accessable.

if microsoft think they've won E3 they're dillusional. right now all we really care about are games and good ones at that. and although Sony has a lot more releases coming up this year or two (3 platforms remember) the PS3 is still way behind the 360 as far as the library goes.

personally, i think Sony won. there i said it. but even then, that only means they've clawed back a tiny peice of what they have lost to MS over the last 2 years.

PS there wasn't much by way of live demo from MS so they should at least be magnanamous enough to avoid the issue of "winners". show us some live demos and THEN we'll cream over Milo...
