Halo 3: ODST now full-priced title

What was once an expansion pack becomes a full-blooded retail release to match “increasing ambition” of game

Consumers can expect to pay full-whack for Bungie’s upcoming Halo 3: ODST upon its release in September following Microsoft’s decision to back-track on its initial statement claiming that the game would be a budget standalone expansion release.

“At the time of those statements, the overall scope of Halo 3: ODST was not yet finalized and since then the project has grown increasingly more ambitious,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Joystiq.

“We believe this standalone experience is much more than just an expansion. Halo 3: ODST provides a new campaign from the point of view of an entirely new character.

"Combine that with three new multiplayer maps, the entirely new cooperative mode called Firefight, and the complete Halo 3 multiplayer collection on a standalone disc, we feel this is a good value and tremendous addition to the Halo franchise.”

Halo 3: ODST will be released in the UK on September 22nd.

yo henry ford, there has only been ONE true Halo game this whole generation so far, and ONE spin-off title. In three or four years. How is that milking a franchise?? It's hardly Nintendo/Mario levels of exploitation now is it?

don't worry tho, we can't all be right about everything all the time can we...........in this world of crappy motion controlled gimmicky family nonsense, Halo is actually one of the good guys, and don't you forget it :) ppl love to jump on the hate bandwagon huh?

I have to say I always thought this would end up full price. Their reasons though are pretty flimsy. "A whole new campaign," well yeah, we were expecting that anyway. "An entirely new character", hmm. It's a Spartan with a different name.

On top of that 3 multiplayer maps and a co-op mode. The rest of the stuff is owned by every Halo fan anyway.

I don't think we're being ripped off but it would have been better to just give a financial reason (development is costing too much) rather than this pretty weak explanation.

Good points, by the way, mr donuts.

im not trying to just hate halo for the sake of it, i really dont get it, there are much better games than this title, some people hate call of duty doesnt mean they are wrong, just means they DONT like it,
any game they put the word halo in will sell, just because of the fan base, i know for a fact so many halo wars were sold without people playing the demo and even knowing it was rts, it was bought by some people thinking it was fps, just goes to show you, blind fan loyalty,
spin off or not the name is used to sell the product, simple

What's the problem? Personally I can take it or leave it but millions of people WANT Halo games. Who are Microsoft to take the righteous path and deny them? It's the same as making a great comedy series on TV, then making another one because its successful people want more.

I don't think you're wrong but you've posted more on this comments thread than anyone else, and you don't even like it. And to make comments like how much better other games are when this isn't even made yet, well it says a lot.

Henry, from all of your posts on all the articles on MCV, You seem to have lots of negativity with anything linked to the name Microsoft. Post after post on alot of articles is nothing but bad things. Do you have any positive thoughts in that head of yours? I assume you don't get the Halo franchise cause maybe you haven't played it? Honestly I don't think you have an Xbox at all. Just to make a point...

Regarding Natal.
"i, just reminds me of wii with no controllers" yet you don't mention anything regarding PS3's motion.

"MS are always taking rubbish"

"MS can go for it, sony are much better puttin their cash into 1st party games like the New team ico game, proj trico, MAG, Demon souls, WHite knight etc etc"

"MS dont have many exclussives"

Regarding Valve not making games for PS3

"yeah yeah, gabe Newell hates sony full stop, he made his money working for microsoft years ago and still has some BS loyalty"

Snippets of quotes from your posts in the last 4 or 5 weeks.
