Microsoft acknowledges 3DV acquisition

Buyout of Israeli firm confirmed for the first time by Xbox 360 platform holder

Having reportedly been finalised as long ago as March, Microsoft has for the first time publicly acknowledged its acquisition of Israeli motion sensing technology firm 3DV.

Speaking of Microsoft’s extensive R&D facilities in Israel, corporate VP Moshe Lichtman told Globes: “Fourteen development projects are taking place at the centre today, twelve of them completely new and destined to become Microsoft products in new markets.

“The R&D centre helped Microsoft in buying the intellectual property of 3DV Systems, and in the wake of that dozens of the company's employees were recruited to work at the development centre.”

Motion sensing technology is obviously big news for Microsoft at the moment, with its E3 reveal of Natal, an advanced motion, colour and sound detecting camera, stealing the show.
