Charlie Brooker’s games TV show commissioned

Gameswipe ‘is happening’, confirms acerbic columnist and presenter

Charlie Brooker has confirmed that his games TV show has been commissioned, MCV can reveal.

Gameswipe is a spin-off from Brooker’s popular BBC Four programmes Screenwipe and Newswipe.

Brooker confirmed via his Twitter account: ‘Gameswipe is happening, yes. More on that nearer the time.’

MCV revealed that Brooker was producing the show last month – but the project was still yet to be green-lit.

Now it appears that BBC Four has given the thumbs up to the idea. However, no transmission date has been given.

Brooker also said that expected to record an end-of-year Screenwipe round-up, and that Newswipe would return in 2010.

Not since Bitz (remember the American girl on that? She was hot in a gothy way), has there been a half decent TV programme on games. Charlton's brand of wit/rage should provide entertainment in spades. I wonder what he has in store for WoW users?

That's it Lee - Aleks Krotoski - how could I forget? She's quite a big cheese in the world of interactivity these days and I think she writes for the Guardian. Emily 'Bouff' went on to a glittering career in softcore/gore movies. Bits was a cracking show, from the days when Channel 4 was doing great post pub entertainment. Was it really that long ago? Jeez, I am getting old.....

God no!

I friggin hate this guy. His Newswipe and that other 'wipe' (TVWipe?) are bloody awful.

The man has no talent and his observations are never funny. I'm all for cynical, criticising reviews, but Charlie Brooker doesn't know how to pull if off properly. When he wants to emphasise a point he just shouts it back at the camera.

I'm sticking with Yahtzee (aka Zero Punctuation) for my cynical video game reviews. The points he makes are valid and he's actually funny.
