Hirai: Enhanced PSN to arrive in Spring 2010

SCE boss hints at upgraded service that will integrate other Sony devices

Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai has revealed a new and enhanced version of PlayStation Network should be launched by next spring.

The upgraded service will build on the established PSN system but will be more open and broader in scale, Fortune reports. Hirai suggested the upgraded service will integrate with other Sony devices, including phones, cameras and televisions.

“It’s now a matter of what all the services need to look like for each device, and coming out with a rollout plan,” he said. “It’s like city planning here, and we can start small. We don’t need to build New York City overnight.”

The goal is to make it easier for consumers to manage media, transfer images from a camera to TV, and display, edit, share and store videos. It was also hinted that Sony’s loyal customers will be rewarded with discounts and premium services.

I like this 'should be launched by next Spring'. Sony 'should' have done a lot of things by now but haven't. It'll be Autumn 2010 at the earliest.

I recieved an e-mail from SCEHJ that they're going to remove the PlayStation Network on August 16th 2009 and bring it back at August 17th 2009 and this year's gamescom 2009 is at 15th August, think they're planning something here, I'm estimating that they're bringing Xbox Live payments to a PlayStation Networks kind of payments (annually), here's what they wrote:

New PSN

IMO I think it will be another Beta service that will operate forever before we see the final version being release, if ever. Why is Sony trying so hard to get more money from us for this? IIRC Sony did stated at one point a long time ago access to the PSN is free of charge. Why are they retracting this comment?
