Sony considers new iPhone rival

Electronics giant to begin development next month

According to the Japanese business newspaper Nikkei, Sony is to begin working on a potential new hybrid of gaming device and phone that is designed to rival the iPhone's success.

As reported by Reuters, the Japanese electronics firm is believed to be readying a development team who will begin work on the device in July. Despite establishing the portable gadget market with the success of the Walkman, since the iPod and iPhone's releases Sony has struggled to hold pace in the sector.

if sony just joined with apple and gets i-tunes on the ps3 as an application, and you get a little i-pod on your x media bar so you can then have your own music playing in game, as metal gear 4 did,
this would be great in my view,

you more likely mean sony should just not even bother as they have already made a hash of things in the marketplace with 2 high priced failures in the form of the PSP and PS3. Last thing we need is an overpriced mobile phone gaming device, whatever they come up with i doubt it is going to effect the iphone which is in a class of its own.
