According to GfK-ChartTrack data for sales up to June 27th, 2009, DS enjoys the biggest installed base with 9.1 million, up 2.7 million from the same period a year before. In addition, 300,000 DSi consoles have been sold since launch.

Wii follows on 5.4 million – up 2.3 million on its installed base in June 2008.

So now that you've got all the numbers the right way round...

Summary:

- DS still outselling PSP more than 5:1 despite market saturation and piracy

- Wii still selling almost as many as 360 and PS3 put together, without a price cut

- PS3, unless I'm mistaken, selling *fewer* consoles in the past year than in the previous year, while the 360's still going up.

That's one hell of a bleak outlook for Sony.

What is also interesting is in the first 6 months of 2009 the Wii has not been the force we know of, the Xbox 360 is currently the best selling console in the UK in 2009. I'm very surprised.

Recession

The recession came at about the worst time for Sony, it has a technically superior console (game availability is pretty even) but the market right now isn't there for pricey things. They need a big price cut, soon and sharpish to stop the PS3 being a comparative flop to the 360.

only a 1+ million lead for RROD,that's poor considering in europe they had over 1 year headstart and a price advantage. They had to cut the price TWO times last year just to do that. also 360 is last in japan.

One year head start by 360...

um yeah but

The PS3 sold 900,000 last year and is currently 1,700,000 behind the 360. So what if there was a one year head start by the 360, it is 2 years worth of sales in front?!!

Surely even the Sony fans can see that something is wrong here.

I love my Sony hardware, i'm just aware that most shoppers don't think that it's good value for money yet.
