Sales up 231 per cent year-on-year with 3.1m discs sold so far this year in the UK
Some good news for Blu-ray at last. New numbers from the British Video Association show that 3.1m of the hi-def discs have been sold so far in 2009 – that’s a 231 per cent increase on the same period last year.
The knock-on has of course been a dip in sales of traditional DVDs, which according to Digital Spy fell 9.5 per cent in the same period.
“The continuing success of Blu-ray is testament to the growth of consumer confidence in the high definition format,” BVA’s marketing manager Hannah Conduct stated.
“There are now almost 1,500 Blu-ray releases in the market covering a breadth of titles. Seeing is believing with Blu-ray and the figures show that once consumers have experienced the format, they continue to spend their money on the product.”

I agree that the growth of blu-ray has been on the increase since the start of 2009, but must disagree on the fall of DVD sales, as with owning / running our own retail business we have seen a vast increase in sales on both formats, more so on DVDs.

99 million dvds vs 3.1 million blu ray still isnt great..... no matter how many % you put next to the increase in sales
