Warners Midway buyout gets the nod

The green light has been given to Warner Bros’ proposed buyout of troubled publisher Midway, with the closure of the deal expected within the next 10 days.

Kotaku reports that the acquisition includes Midway’s sports and arcade brands as well as top IP Mortal Kombat and the not yet released This Is Vegas. Midway’s Chicago and Seattle studios will also head over to camp Warner.

The future’s looking less secure for Wheelman developer Midway Newcastle and Midway San Diego, which is currently working on a new TNA game. Workers at both studios have been given 60 days notice of their closure, though Warner has hinted that a deal for both remains an outside possibility.

MCV reported earlier this week that Warner’s $33m offer to buy Midway was the only serious deal put forward – there was seemingly no appetite for the bidding war Midway had hoped for.
