Battlefield 1943 arrives on XBL

DICE’s latest retail-snubbing instalment in its multiplayer war sim available for 1200 MS Points

EA’s Battlefield 1943, the latest high-profile brand to try its hand at cutting boxed retail distribution out of the loop, is out now and ready to buy.

Priced at 1200 Microsoft Points (£10.20) the game is an online multiplayer-only affair and sees authentic weapons and vehicles take it to one another in a Pacific-based setting.

There’s a free demo available to download, too.

There are some early reports of pretty severe in-game lag – which is perhaps not surprising in the first hours after release.

lag this morning, and this afternoon - the game can not find any matches to join!

Me thinks EA might have underestimated how popular the game was going to be!

Lag is the least of my problems. I am one of the many who can't play the game at all, as my EA account "cannot be accessed".

I Love the Battlefield series ever since BF1942 was released, bought BF1943 yesterday eve on Xbox360 and spent a few hours trying to connect. In the end the closest I got to a game was running around on my own in the tutorial!

Bugs me how such a lot of games recently are released clouded by dissapointment. Why not start with more servers than needed and reduce them over time, rather than trying to predict demand and getting it wrong, again!
