Impressive debut for Square Enix’s DS RPG, bettering predecessor DQ VIII
The latest release in Square Enix’s hugely popular RPG series, Dragon Quest IX, has enjoyed a fantastic debut in Japan racking up sales of 2,343,440 copies in its first two days on sale.
Andriasang reports that the numbers mean that DQIX bettered the impressive debut of predecessor DGVIII, which sold 2,237,000 units in its first two days on the Japanese market.
Dragon Quest is every bit as popular as Final Fantasy in Japan, helping it to global lifetime sales of 50m units. However, despite debuting in Japan in 1986, the series only made its European debut in 2006 in the form of PS2 title Dragon Quest VIII.
Square Enix has previously expressed its intention to grow Dragon Quest’s fan base in territories outside of Japan.
The next instalment to the series is set to be a Wii exclusive title.
