HMV secures Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition in UK

Entertainment retail giant to sell special edition for £119.99 exclusively in the UK

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Prestige edition will be made available in the UK exclusively through HMV.

The Prestige edition was unveiled earlier in the week by Infinity Ward, and features a collector’s bust of Captain ‘Soap’ MacTavish from the game, a special edition Steelbook, an art book, a code to download the original Call of Duty game over PSN or Xbox Live and, best of all, a fully-functional set of Night Vision Goggles.

The special edition will be go on sale on November 10th for £119.99 for Xbox 360 and PS3, with only limited stock available.

HMV is also planning a series of special in-store launch events, which will be announced in due course.

“This is a fantastic limited edition exclusive for hmv.com customers for what is, undoubtedly, the game of the year,” said HMV’s commercial manager Jonathan Hayes.

“We’re absolutely delighted that we can help make such a special premium product available to fans of the Modern Warfare franchise.

“We’ve been working very closely with Activision to make Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 one of the biggest entertainment events of all time. With this great exclusive and the upcoming launch we hope that everybody gets to play this brilliant game.”

HMV’s senior games buyer Toby Burton added: “We're really proud to be working with Activision and Infinity Ward to bring the Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition to the UK market.

"This product will be exclusive to HMV and represents the pinnacle of gaming special editions. Modern Warfare is my favourite game of the last five years, so I’m ecstatic that we've secured this true gamer's edition for HMV. What more needs to be said than: 'Night Vision Goggles.”

I wouldn't worry about it...I mean come on who has £120 to spend on a game...you could nearly buy an Xbox 360 with that money!

Personally I'm not concerned...although I am surprised GAME missed out on this.

This is great news

I keep getting told by Activision that we as an Indie should support them by not going Grey and getting our games from Centresoft.

Thanks for the support Activision nice to see that yet again you have proved that its all B*****s. The UK games industry is now not an open market it is riddled with exclusives with Indies being told to have whats left.

Activision is forcing Indies into Grey and buying off our competitors only to sell on EBAY at over inflated prices

THANKS ACTIVISION SHAFTED AGAIN

So your telling me as an Indie you'd have stocked the prestige edition hmm?
No you'd have whined about how little margins you were making on it and the fact that peple can't afford £120 and then refused to stock it.

The worst thing about these exclusives is all my regulars who can't wait for this game to come out will be asking me for the Prestige Edition and I am going to have to say "Sorry you will have to go to HMV"

For an Indie Owner the thought of telling Regulars you have to go to our competitor to get something I should be selling is GUT WRENCHING

i already have 60 pre orders for mw2 across both formats, since the web showed the version with nv goggles ive had so many phone calls asking if pre orders can upgrade to this edition, now i have to tell my customers that i can not supply them with this special edition and i am a games specialist shop, we would have stocked this edition no problem at all, now i will be importing this title from the US, at least the ps3 version, until i find out if the 360 is multi region. or i may have to get some from hmv just to keep my regulars, as they will want to take their pre orders to hmv other wise, another example of being shafted in this industry, publishers want you to work with them, but they are not working with us

OK, so you don't like exclusives going elsewhere, fair enough

question is, if a publisher were to ask you, genuinely, "what indies exclusives would you like?", what would you ask for?

you can almost see her fanny, BTW

COD MOD 2 PERV EDITION

As another Indie store owner i find it pretty sad that some individuals make us all look like idiots.

if you dont like the games industry then get out you are obviously not selling much as you have far to much time on your hands having a good old moan on the MCV forums.

let HMV have there crazy priced spy on ladies in the dark version i could really not care as they will cost a fortune and most customers just want them to sell on ebay.

@15 Totally agree with you there, I also own an indie store so I know about like small profit margins etc. but the ones who moan on here do make us have a bad image.

Just accept the fact this is HMV only and spend more time selling than moaning =)

@ Ohiyeah... Yeah, she's pretty hot.

What I wanna know is, she's wearing peach coloured French Knickers (there's nothing underneath that) yet between her legs there is a white spot which in theory should be the white background showing through the gap in her legs, yet there is a dark sofa behind her...

What is this mysterious white spot? Discuss...

I should think the price depends on how good they are...but this isn't really a question for the Market for computer and videogames website. I doubt the nightvision goggles with MW2 will be fantastic...

I cannot believe the lack of respect shown to the Independents regarding Call Of Duty. The game has a price point of 55 pounds how many Indies will find it cheaper to ignore Centresoft and purchase from Asda and Tesco on day of release. I also have to ask what would stop them? I hope Centresoft put the pressure on their parent company in response to this. This is the last chance to show a level of decency deserved by all who buy their stock from Centresoft and avoid grey importing. I still think Bobby Kotick is changing that company for the worst.

@22 Let's just face it...Centresoft aren't going to do anything about it, there's nothing we can do about it so we just have to get over it...if it's cheaper elsewhere...then buy it elsewhere

Touche Stewart I agree we do have to feed off the scraps of the industry like dogs sitting beneath its masters chair at the dinner table.

But we are still the first Distie's ring to offload their crappy games because the High Street won't take them.

So when a quality product arrives its a kick in the teeth that we loyal dogs don't get a sniff

Woof Woof !!!!!!!
