Rockstar’s Xbox 360 exclusive to hit shelves this October for £34.99

Grand Theft Auto Episodes From Liberty City will hit retail shelves on Thursday October 29th.

The game combines the two downloadable episodes The Lost and The Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony into one box, and does not require a copy of GTA IV to run. It will also have an RRP of £34.99.

“Grand Theft Auto Episodes From Liberty City is a brand new GTA coming to retail for Xmas with two great Episodes in The Lost and The Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony,” Rockstar Games’ general manager Neil Stephen told MCV.

Fans will not need an Xbox Live connection or a copy of GTA IV to play the game. You don’t even need to have played GTA IV to enjoy these episodes. They are standalone titles with all the unique wit, humour, action, new characters, music and great story lines that fans have come to expect from GTA titles.”

Both Rockstar and Microsoft are treating the game as one of this Christmas’ biggest releases, and will be backed by a huge marketing push.

“Episodes From Liberty City is incredible value for fans with two complete episodes in one box for £34.99.  This is the first time ever a new GTA has launched on the Xbox 360 platform exclusively. We will be executing a massive marketing campaign with platform holder support, as once again Rockstar are very pleased to be working with Xbox to ensure this a major event launch.”

The Ballad of Gay Tony can be downloaded separately over Xbox Live for 1600 MS points on the same date. The Lost and Damned is currently available to download over Xbox Live. Both require a copy of GTA IV to work.

What a rip off, I already own GTA4 and the DLC. Must I really pay 35 quid if I want to play BoGT? Cos I'm not going to.

A lot of people have already downloaded the TL&TD, this is just money grabbing on Rockstar's part. If they knew this was the plan, then they shouldn't have released the first episode on its own. What's the bet that the second installment never sees the light of day to download so they can force more people to buy this, so that they can play it.

Neil Stephen should hang his head in shame... but he's a manager, so he probably won't.

No, BoGT will still be released as a download on XBOX Live (Similar in price to TLaD) as well, this news is aimed at those that maybe don't have XbOX Live access (or more probably, those that have too much money burning a hole in their pocket, and want everything GTA-related -- completists). You have the choice of downloading the stand-alone expansion pack, or maybe if you didn't/couldn't pick up TLaD when it was released, you can pick them both up as a bundled disc.

I would like to find out if BOGT is still a download on its own....I presume it is, but if it isn't where do I collect my refund for the other DLC?

The article does not make this clear at all, are you sure it's available as DLC too?

These comments were made before the article was updated. I read it three times and it made no mention of being able to download it. If you look at the latest modified time it says midday, my comment was made well before that.

It's not just about reading, mandingo, it's attention to the details.

"Grand Theft Auto Episodes From Liberty City is a brand new GTA... Fans will not need a copy of GTA IV to play the game"
This sounds great... But:
"The Ballad of Gay Tony can be downloaded separately over Xbox Live... The Lost and Damned is currently available [on] Xbox Live. Both require a copy of GTA IV to work."

So, since I don't own GTA IV, I have to either wait until the end of the year to buy both in a store, or purchase GTA IV in order to play TLaD?

I have a copy of GTA on my PS1, a guitar, 2 yoghurt pots and some string. My question is, will I be able to download TBoGT though?

If not, I'm going to adapt the yoghurt pots somewhat, and get those pesky Houser Brothers on a conference call. Oooohhhh I'm mad now Sammy!

4. Are new to Xbox and want an awesome deal
