Dead Space Wii rated 18

Mature game’s potential on Nintendo’s home console to be tested once again this October

The concern that Nintendo consoles are not a suitable platform for mature-rated games will be tested yet again later this year with the news that the BBFC has granted EA’s upcoming Wii-exclusive Dead Space: Extraction an 18 certificate.

No cuts were made to the game, which is an on-rails take on the successful debut outing for the series that wowed critics upon its release on Xbox 360 and PS3 last year.

Industry observers have for some time questioned the viability of mature content on Nintendo’s family-friendly titles.

Many claimed that Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars failed to meet sales expectations on DS, and hardcore franchise No More Heroes looks set to abandon the format after its next outing.

Dead Space: Extraction is due out on Wii this October.
