Revenues rocket at Atari

Q1 numbers up 30% year-on-year but Atari warns industry not to get too excited

After what has been a very turbulent time for the publisher, Atari has this morning got reason to cheer with news that revenues for its fiscal Q1 are up 30 per cent year.

Both Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena and the 1m+ selling Ghostbusters were credited for the upturn.

83.5 per cent of the company’s revenues came from the North American market, with sales of Xbox 360 software accounting for 37 per cent of those numbers. PS3 claimed 24.6 per cent of sales and Wii 12.1 per cent.

However, despite the seemingly positive news, Atari was cautious with its outlook, with a statement reading: “This performance in the first quarter is mainly due to a favourable game release schedule and should not be extrapolated for the remaining of the year.”

Interestingly, it seems that Atari hasn’t released any information about its profit for the period, according to Gamasutra.
