CHIPS opens new outlet

Brand new store opened in Market Harborough, Leicestershire

Independent video game chain CHIPS has opened a new store in Leicestershire.

Based in Market Harborough, the new outlet sells software and hardware for all major consoles, as well as accessories, books, cards, merchandise and pre-owned.

The store is run by former accountant and local resident Andrew Colclough.

“I first looked at opening a CHIPS store in Market Harborough about five years ago but I just couldn’t find the right premises,” commented Colclough.

“I think the recession has bottomed out now and we should see a slow and steady recovery over the next 18 months or so.”

“I believe this is the first new store to open in the town for several months and I hope the local consumers feel we have a lot to offer."

Nice to see chips and grainger games opening new stores. Grainger games seems to be doing extremely well with the new appointment from Gamestation. A real scoop. Nice too to see chips opening a store, was getting worried with all the stores they seemed to be closing over the past few months, was beginnning to think it was the beginning of the end.

I wasn't aware of any Chips stores closing. Which stores did they close?

Isn't it about time Chips had a full rebranding of their stores? The logo, colours and the use of a 'Mr Chips' character are all looking horribly out of date now.

I've not been in one of their stores for months now, i've been to afew but mainly the Middlesbrough and Bishop Auckland stores and they used to have so much cool stuff in, but on my last visit they just looked run down, dirty and understocked with old ps2 titles. I did go the the Darlington stores once, but once was enough, it was a seedy looking back ally no customers and the staff worth playing on some old fruit machine thing, i quickly turned around and left.

Closed 2 opened 1 net effect -1 at the moment!!!
Of the 2 we closed one site is to be redeveloped the other site is due to be taken by a national chain.
But any national chain is going to have site churn from time to time

You only need to do a re-brand if either your brand does not work in the first place or if it has become negative
Neither applies to CHIPS
We have a very strong nationally recognised brand in both the video games market and the franchise market.
Mr CHIPS is a very strong part of our brand so whilst it might not be to your taste it is positively received across our customer demorgraphic
Also good brands evolve and Mr CHIPS have just gone through an makeover which is on our website and stationary and will be introduced across all stores in due course

"Closed 2 opened 1 net effect -1 at the moment!!!"

"1 at the moment" that doesnt sound too promising? does that mean more are closing?

Good to hear ones being redeveloped though, look forward to seeing it re-open, just have to see if Grainger Games get there first. Graingers stores are going from strength to strength at the moment, nice to see a contendor to GAME and gamestation appearing, espeically now they have that gamestation top bod working on expansion plans.
