PS2 is the only Sony machine to see year-on-year sales rises for quarter ending June 30th
Sony has joined fellow platform holder Nintendo is posting year-on-year sales declines for its financial quarter ending June 30th, with revenues in its PlayStation business down 18 per cent year-on-year.
Revenues for the recently formed Network Product and Services Division, which houses both the PlayStation business and its Walkman operations, suffered an annual sales decline of 37.4 per cent.
Surprisingly, the ever-popular PS2 was Sony’s only machine to enjoy a year-on-year sales increase, with its 1.6m unit sales up on the 1.5m units shifted in the same period in 2008. That it outsold PS3 is certainly notable.
Both PS3 and PSP saw annual sales declines in the period, with the home console selling 1.1m units (down from 1.6m last year) and the handheld 1.3m units (down from 3.6m).
The firm blamed the numbers on the rising value of the Yen.

How on earth?
How on earth can they blame falling UNIT sales on the High Yen as well?
RE: How on earth?
I'm inclined to agree with you on this one Allan. The only way the high Yen could be to blame is if has kept the build price of the PS3 high.
Sure, it might have contributed towards it, but the real culprit is the extortionate £300 price tag, especially in the current climate.
Re: How On Earth
I am wondering how on earth there revenues will improve when you consider the price point of both the PSP GO & PS3
news just in...
it was reported to day that the production costs of the PS3 are pointing towards a price cut later this year. possibly.
if that's the case then the fact they are going to carry on supporting the PSP3000 they should see an improvement.
what we can't say at this point tho is whether that'll mean profit or just a decrease in losses.
the PSPGO is crazy expensive, personally i smell another death in the PS family.
