Capcom bucks financial trend

Revenues up 19 per cent year-on-year as Resi and Monster Hunter continue to deliver

Flying in the face of disappointing financial results from both Nintendo and Sony, Japanese publisher Capcom has continued its fine momentum from the last fiscal year with a further quarter of growth.

For the quarter ending June 30th, Capcom’s revenues saw a 19.2 per cent year-on-year increase, finishing at YEN 19.5bn. Operating income, too, was up by 23 per cent at YEN 3.66bn.

The success was in part down to two of Capcom’s biggest IPs that continue to perform at retail – Resident Evil and Monster Hunter. Sales of Resident Evil 5 now stand at 5m units, whilst PSP outing Monster Hunter Freedom unite has now sold 3.5m copies.

There are seemingly good times ahead for Monster Hunter’s Wii debut, too, with Japanese pre-orders for the title having passed the 1m mark ahead of its release tomorrow.

The only negative for the publisher was the ongoing struggles of its arcade division, which saw profits down 6.4 per cent at YEN 2.23bn.
