MCV outlines what titles remain in the fight for Christmas retail supremacy
For year’s retailers have been begging publishers to stop flooding the market at Q4 and instead spread their releases across the whole year – but at this rate, retail is going to be scratching its head wondering where the big Christmas releases are coming from.
Capcom has become the latest publisher to move one its key software hopes from the ‘busy’ Q4 window, with Airtight Games’ Dark Void now scheduled for Q1 2010.
Community director Chris Kramer told Joystiq: “The delay was made in order to get the game out of the crowded fall game season. The move will be great for the game and for gamers. Less competition in the market, more time for polish.”
Other big titles seeing the Q4 release put back to 2010 include Splinter Cell: Conviction, BioShock 2, Singularity, Red Dead Redemption, MAG, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Bayonetta, Starcraft 2, Alan Wake and Heavy Rain.
So what titles are still preparing for the Q4 battle?

Obviously there’s Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Nov 10th) but also look out for the likes of Halo: ODST (Sep 22nd), Assassin’s Creed II (November 20th), The Beatles: Rock Band (September 9th) Forza 3 (Oct 23rd), Operation Flashpoint (October 6th), Need for Speed: Shift (Sep 18th), Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics (Oct 16th), Colin McRae Dirt 2 (September 11th), GTA: Episodes from Liberty City (Oct 29th), Batman: Arkham Asylum (Aug 28th) and FIFA 10 (Oct 2nd).
Nintendo's Wii Fit Plus, Codemasters' Formula One and Konami's PES 2010 have yet to be dated.
