Games Media Legend

The winner of this award will be named on the night

505 and Warner Bros. are the latest to sign up as sponsors. The two publishers join Gold Sponsors New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Xbox 360, EA, F1 2009 from Codemasters, DJ Hero and Sega, plus National Newspaper sponsor Saw and main bar sponsor Wet.

Hundreds of you participated in an open nominations process, resulting in a field of runners and riders that should lead to plenty of discussion, celebration, sniping and, ultimately, 11 worthy winners.

Eurogamer.net, Future Publishing, Imagine Publishing Videogaming247 and Videogamer score the most nominations.

Next, a selected judging panel consisting of over 200 members of the games media and industry PRs will be asked to deliver their verdict ahead of the big night at Jongleurs in Camden on the evening of Thursday, October 15th.

There is no shortlist for the Games Media Legend award. Instead, soundings have been taken and the recipient will be announced on the night. They will join previous winners Gary Penn and Steve Jarratt in the GMA Hall of Fame.

Can I ask how come "Wez and Larry's" Top Tens weren't in the nominations for Games Broadcast/Podcast, As I know for full fact enough nominations went in for it!!!! (well over 100)

And considering it was the ONLY show that was on Television of the lot, I highly suspect this is all fixed now.

I honestly thought this was to support people and companies trying to make a difference, but it seems this is all a charade. For Shame GMA For shame.

It only takes one nomination to be in the running, but credit where credit’s due, that was some pretty successful campaigning. There were a total of 23 Podcasts and Broadcasts nominated for the category, which were then shortlisted based on the number of independent nominations throughout the industry. ‘Call to arms’ nominations and voting isn’t necessarily going to reflect industry opinion and is open to abuse, which is primarily why this year the GMAs are being judged by a panel of over 200 industry experts.

Speaking of the Broadcast/Podcast. I see Johnny Minkley has been nominated TWICE, both for Radio 1 AND Eurogamer.

That hardly seems fair does it?

Johnny is involved in two games Broadcast/Podast projects, both of which were nominated enough times to win a position as finalist. They're both very different, too. I think that's perfectly fair, personally.

Interesting. I have to concur with Wez and Larry being a glaring omission. I guess being nominated doesn't mean being listened to and loved by people, but only by certain people.

Likewise, it's a travesty not to see the NOWGamer podcast in there. It's the only other one I listen to these days and, like Wez And Larry poops all over anythign the BBC is doing games-wise. Ho-hum

Sorry, but this is a total joke.

This isn't a award ceremony anymore, more an ego grooming service for Future and the clique. There's zero point entering anything next year now this is all fixed, and I shall make this public.

The gaming industry is a travesty now and this is a prime example why it's gone downhill so much. I've lost all faith.

"Johnny is involved in two games Broadcast/Podast projects, both of which were nominated enough times"

"It only takes one nomination to be in the running"

So is it or isn't it the amount of times you vote?

Means total crap either way if you can allow multiple nominations for the same subject. Again, there's no point entering unless you're from Future or in the super best friends club patting themselves on the back.

No wonder why all the talent is leaving the UK.

What a load of sore fucking losers. The finalists here offer a fantastic spread of the best games media working today. Many didn't even ask to be nominated, let alone organising some sorry readership spam vote campaign. Where's your fucking dignity?

Twat.

Funny thing is... even though you're anonymous, I know you'll be offended like you name has been dragged through the mud... why?

Because you're a twat.

Dignity has nothing to do with it when it's fixed, just because you and your butt buddies are all too busy patting each other on the back.

and fantastic spread? Don't make me laugh. Podcasts that get a few hundred viewers, Magazines that get less than 10,000 readers? It's obvious that you have to be buddies with the guy who made up the nomination lists, having 200 judges means jack if all they get to choose from are their chums.

It's obvious that you're one of them as you're too spineless to give your real name.

Maybe if the industry actually went with what the people want and like and not what they proclaim the masses want instead, the industry wouldn't be in the sorry place it is today.

No thanks, I won't be attending this year.

The nominations were abysmal, total lack of nominees for anyone showing innovation or pushing the industry forward and just a disgrace to the industry in general.

The sooner you rename it the "Future-Eurogamer-Johnny Minkley Self-Congratulatory" awards, the sooner we can be done with this farce.

That's an excellent idea, No Thanks!

If we do that, if, even though at this late stage it'll be difficult in terms of branding etc, we change it to the Future-Eurogamer-Johnny Minkley Self-Congratulatory Awards, will you come? Please? Because honestly, if you don't, I think we'll probably just cancel

Well, if I discover that I'm actually Johnny Minkley suffering from a severe case of amnesia within the next two weeks, then you've got yourself a deal good sir!
