One staff member already redeployed; four others in consultation about new roles
Following the surprise news that Future is to refrain from ABCing its games magazines today, the publisher has now confirmed that it has closed independent PlayStation title PSW.
Future has told MCV that one member of the magazine’s team has already been assigned a new role within the firm, whilst four others are currently in talks about other opportunities across its Bath and London offices.
“It’s always incredibly sad when we close a title as established as PSW, but the decision was taken in response to decreasing demand,” games portfolio publishing director James Binns explained.
“By focusing our efforts on Official PlayStation Magazine and a single independent PlayStation title in PSM3, we can strengthen our position in delivering the number one and number two print titles in the sector.
“We continue to invest in our traditional print brands, but games is a rapidly changing sector, so our portfolio needs to constantly evolve to meet the needs of consumers in a vibrant and diverse market.”
Future acquired PSW in February 2003 as part of its Computec Media purchase.

Why PSW?
If you ask me they should have closed PSM3 instead. It's been awful these last couple of years.
Why PSW
Future must be having a disastrous time at the moment. Their Nov 2008 Company figures reflect a cross section of a company that exists on such a lower level than the one then stated. I think they'll be back to one location (Bath) by the end of the the year? It's unfortunately (for the staff) going to be a tough decision time for the top guys!
