SCEE has confirmed that its long-awaited movies-on-demand service is heading to Europe, with the UK, France, Germany and Spain set to receive the service first of all, kicking off this November.

The service will allow users to both watch films over their PS3 and also on their PSP – with both old and new models of the handheld being supported. It will be implemented through PSN, and PS3 users will be able to start viewing films as they are downloading.

Rented films will be viewable for up to 14 days after purchase, though once playback has started the licence will expire after 24 hours.

“PlayStation is becoming the home of entertainment from games to music channels, from creative platforms to virtual pets,” SCEE president and CEO Andrew House stated.

“The addition of the PlayStation Network video delivery service for PS3 and PSP provides a simple way for PlayStation owners to access movie content and enjoy the latest blockbuster whenever and wherever they choose.”

Studios already on board include 20th Century Fox, Disney, ABC, ESPN, Lionsgate, MGM, Paramount, Universal and Warner Bros.

Films available from the off include the likes of The Chronicles of Narnia, The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Terminator Salvation, Transformers 2, Valkyrie and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
