GAMESCOM’09: Analyst predicts Xbox 360 Elite SKU reduction some time in the next seven days

Microsoft will drop the price of the Xbox 360 Elite within seven days – that’s the prediction of EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich, backing up information supplied to MCV UK retail.

“We expect Microsoft to make an official announcement, in the next week, regarding the elimination of the Xbox 360 Pro SKU and the reduction in the Elite SKU pricing to $299,” Divnich stated.

“We do not know the full extent of the upcoming Xbox 360 promotion. There is a possibility that one of the systems could have a larger hard-drive at the $299 price. EEDAR, however, does not believe any disparity in hard-drive size will make a noticeable difference in how consumers value each product.”

MCV reported earlier today that Microsoft is preparing UK retail for changes to its Xbox 360 SKUs with an announcement that is expected to include a significant price drop for the Xbox 360 Elite.

A price drop sooner than later is the best option in my eyes, hopefully they will drop the price, as soon as tomorrow as most retailers are and have reduced there PS3 prices already, since PS3 SLIM has been announce for 1st September. And personally i can see Microsoft following them.

1 SKU?

Will be interesting to see whether Microsoft decide to keep the Arcade model after introducing the new SKU. They could well go with just the 1 SKU in the end. The only thing that makes me think otherwise is that in eliminating the Arcade they will be forfeiting there ability to always have a lower price system than Sony.

$199 Arcade is Misleading

The $199 Arcade system is misleading. I know that it comes with an internal memory card and all but you can't do much for hard core gamers. Now, hard core gamers have to purchase the elite (which will not come with the High Def cables - ala PS3).

If they drop the price of the elite to $299. Both consoles will be fairly equal if features. The main differences being the following:

Sony/PS3:
* Free OnLine
* Web Browser
* Blu-Ray Player

M$/360 Elite:
* Some features (cross game chatting)
* Netflix

Sorry but that is all I see that the Xbox has over the PS3. And in time the PS3 Should get these things as well so that's that.

There is nothing misleading about the 360 Arcade:

ITS *NOT* FOR HARD CORE GAMERS!

Simples!

Oh. You made an interesting point about features but ruined your whole argument but typing M$. Why not type $ony? To$hiba? $ixteen year old child?

What MS Should:

What Microsoft should do:

Put a 60GB hdd in the Arcade
Put a 250GB in the Pro and drop the elite.

If they could make it quieter it would be good (Although now you can install all your games, this maybe a moot point).

They don't need Wifi - Hard core gamers would only use wired ethernet anyway.

Blu-ray - maybe, but its a little late now for this gen of consoles.

Price - Lower = better

XBLA - Nothing - its great as it is - Keep the subscriptions. It cost next to nothing anyway.

Get Natal out as soon as possible.

Yes it has been rumoured that the Arcade will increase in price to £160. However as MCV revealed the listing for the new Arcade price may have simply been a place holder for a new SKU.
A bit of common sense and guess work tells me that in fact the new SKU being talked about IS the new Elite and Arcade model in one. The new 'Elite' is rumoured to be priced at £160 and so is the new 'Arcade'. Can't have 2 SKU's at the same price so... Microsoft may be going with just the 1 SKU at £160.
