Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition sold out

HMV stock runs dry of special edition; Retailer seeking extra units

HMV's allocation of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition has sold out.

The retailer secured exclusive rights to the special edition in July, with the Xbox 360 set selling out first. Despite the sell-out HMV has told MCV that it is looking to secure extra units.

However, that may prove challenging as Infinity Ward has already stated that it wants to keep the Prestige Edition a strictly limited affair.

"The initial batch has been accounted for via all the pre-orders," said a HMV spokesperson. "but we are looking to see if we can secure more units."

The Prestige Edition features a collector’s bust of Captain ‘Soap’ MacTavish from the game, a special edition Steelbook, an art book, a code to download the original Call of Duty game over PSN or Xbox Live and, best of all, a fully-functional set of Night Vision Goggles.

The set costs £119.99.

LIMITED OR STEALING

i thought the PRESTIGE EDITION was a limited edition? i think its unfair for the true gamers and fans that were updated about this game from day one. as far for the others thats strickly just hear ( night vision goggles, coolest game all year and ect.) they just wanna buy then sell for profit as for the REAL gamers Fans wanna appriciate the oppertunity they had to get theres. so is it fair to make MORE "LIMITED EDITION" copies? i dont like so. its unheard of, its dumb to think just cause not EVERYONE got one or some cry baby emails got to who ever there going to make more. then that totaly removes the idea of LIMITED EDITION RIGHT!! might as well say " Limited edition UNTIL everyone gets one... doesnt make sence. on the other hand if 25 million copies are going out and each one sold for 150 just look at that profit right there... but if they get the bright idea hey were making BANK on this 1 in a lifetime oppertunity lets make 10 more million to make that much more money.. then we will see its not about the FANS or the REAL gamers it will be about the taking advantage of the FANS and the GAMERS. so bet you believe the 25million that did get the copies first will never again go after the pre-orders again, and just wait till the limited get sold out so they can say another batch of ("LIMITED EDITION") can be published. best believe if they do creat another batch i will never again buy any titles to do with MW2 or the makers or helpers. and my store will NOT carry or ADVISE them Either. be smart about it, its like a super bowl once the seats are full tere full sold out.. they dont open up the stairs and start selling them to. FIRST COME FIRST serve.

I agree with Alex, they should keep it extremely limited, for the loyal fans it will be owning a piece of gaming history which will be ruined if they make another batch. If anyone missed out its their problem, if you were truley a fan of the game you would have known this was coming ALONG time ago.

Now that i've got that out my system...

Alex do you really think the 'true fans' of this game have secured all the preorders? Just think about it for a second, what really ticks me off is that the day this edition of this game is released 90% of the copies will be on ebay for sale at five times what they're actually worth.

...Thats the price you'll have to pay for not getting in early, everybody had at least a good couple of days before they sold out. That's what ""ticks me off", people who complain for missing out when the had a couple of day to secure theirs.

Be wary of eBay sales

All the listing on eBay are in breach of the 30 day limit for pre-orders. If you look carefully at some of the current auctions listed they may well be scams as well (some are asking for immediate positive feedback so they can withdraw the funds!). If you pay 60 days before an item is due, expect that you may lose your money. PayPal do not refund if the money is already gone (even if you pay with Credit Cards now that the CC companies deny responsibility for PayPal payments).

??? The price we pay for not getting in early, I'm sorry but HMV were allowing 3 orders per customer for the Prestige Edition, that is not right, I agree with squished that we're going to see all the extra copies people have bought will end up on ebay. It shouldn't be allowed, one copy per person is all that is needed.

I got mine "1 copy" on preorder from Gamestop and i hope the fans don't buy any from e-bay, make all those who hoarded the edition pay for it buy not being able to get rid of them and hopfully learning from it. at the same time if their selling them for the same price or close to it, then so be it.

Victim of fate

What about the victims of fate? I am a true fan (one of the first to place my order) I moved house and informed HMV of this, they had to revalidate my delivery addy using my card, this validation failed due to a banking issue and thus my order was cancelled. Now I am screwed.

Hate that these comments are so often posted on by judgemental and arogant people with little or no compassion for their fellow man.

Hope they get more in soon.

Limited editon should mean limited edition and as for people buying more than one copy to sell on well thats the just human nature. Nobody stops ticket touts hicking up the price of concerts do they i have 2 pre ordered but that is for me and my son but if some fool is willing to offer stupid money to get hold of one well people will consider it wont they as i said its human nature. The old saying is IF YOUR NOT FAST YOUR LAST seems to spring to mind so as for you loosers wamping on about getting hold of prestige editions make me an offer while i laugh in your faces LOSERS

Glad to hear you got sorted Stu, yours was an unfortunate turn of events. As for Nicola`s comments my son will still get his copy i will just sell my copy on and as far as being ashamed i dont honestly give a monkeys about your views when you grow up to be a big girl you will soon find out that in this world it is dog eat dog and you will probably end up as a down trodden goody two shoes who will achieve nothing in life. You will find out soon enough tat money makes the world go round as well as being the root of all evil. So as long as software companies screw us for cost we will try to screw our fellow man. Life is screw or be screwed you self righteous little goody two shoes you can kiss my A*S!!!

Just Pre-order from Best Buy, Walmart,, or Toys'R'Us

Whomever is dumb enough to pay more that $150 for the Prestige Edition is blind because you can pre-order from Walmart, Bestbuy, or Toys'R'Us. The good thing about Bestbuy is that they even offer in-store pick up!! Some people jump the and do not do enough research. I have mine pre-ordered through Bestbuy for in-store pick up so, to each it's own ;-)

as sam point sout not everyone can afford to get it the day its announced so saying you should have been quicker is a narrow minded comment. i do find it stupid that for somehting like this you can purchase up to 3, they should have made it 1 per person using people card names to sort this out.

but as they havnt nothings going to change that now, would have loved this edition as ive just only gotten to a point where i could have got it now
