Nintendo’s machine enjoys failure rates significantly below both Xbox 360 and PS3
A new study from SquareTrade claims that the Nintendo Wii is by far and away the most reliable console in the current generation of machine – and Xbox 360 is unsurprisingly named as the most prone to failure.
The report, named Game Console Failure Rates, claims that just 2.7 per cent of Wii owners have reported a technical problem with their machine.
In comparison, 10 per cent of PS3 users have reported fatal errors with their hardware. Bottom of the pile, however, was Xbox 360, with a reported failure rate pegged at 23.7 per cent.
Interestingly, only half of those with faulty Xbox 360s are said to have suffered the infamous ‘Red Ring of Death’. Disc read issues and ‘output errors’ were the most common problems on both Xbox 360 and PS3.
A bit more stat crunching also came up with a ‘failure rate per 24 hours’. Xbox 360 was again named the least reliable, with a 1.35 per cent chance of failure for every 24 hours played.

In contrast, PS3 has a 0.5 per cent chance of failure and the Wii 0.31 per cent.

Failure rates
Everyone I know who own's a Wii barely plays it. Not saying it's a poor machine, but Wii games suit an entirely different audience with differing gaming habits to PS3 and XBox gamers imo.
Really...??
Well, my 360 has broken 3 times...so in the end I got rid. The 1st Wii wouldn't read any discs. My Ps3 is the only one without problems. I wouldn't touch a 360 again ever!

a bit of a fanboy comment, whilst saying the wii failed once, 360 failed 3 times and so far the PS3 not failing
I like how you had to comment that you would never touch a 360 again but no mention of wii or anything
showing a biast few and fanboy few to your ps3
personally I love my 360 and have had 12 (all replaced for new ones, latest one has lasted 1 1/2 years)
I have had 3 ps3 (all replaced too with new ones, latest one has lasted 5 months)
I have never had to change over my wii
yes I barely played my wii and my ps3 was used for blu ray movies mainly but it was the blu ray movies that faultied off my ps3's (weird isnt it for a blu ray player)
Whilst I play my 360 alot but I do worry about it going faulty.
360
my 360 has had the dreaded red ring of death 3 times now and that still won't turn me away as it was in constant use at times. I wonder if part of the reason the PS3 and WII consoles are more reliable as the owners of either console hardly use ther consoles.
Jasper is very reliable
It's worth looking at the SquiareTrade data (the PDF).
The latest Jasper SKU has a failure rate of less than 1%.
This compares to the (fat) PS3 fail rate of 10%.
and Xbox still offers an industry leading 3yr warranty.
(with a 1 in 10 chance of failure perhaps the PS3 fanboys might care to rethink their dumb criticism of that 3yrs warranty and try to press Sony for a similar one of their own?
Fanboys eh?
Acting against their own interests for some crazy reason.)
