Konami tones down arcade elements of new title to win back former buyers of franchise
Konami has told MCV that Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 will bring lapsed fans back to the franchise – thanks to a return to the franchise’s hallmark realism.
The publisher has worked closely with the game’s community to weed out elements that let down PES 2009 – which suffered critically and commercially against a resurgent FIFA 09.
Konami’s European PES Team Leader Jon Murphy told MCV that the new game
would bring PES back to its “simulation roots”.
“People want their football game to mix playability with realism, and that is a fine line to walk,” he said. “PES 2010 sees a real return to the simulation roots of the series, with more considered pace, and more emphasis on positional play and passing movement.
“The PES fanbase is thankfully very vociferous in their PES tastes, and has proved essential in the development of the new game. Everything from the way nets bulge to the goalkeepers’ gloves has come under scrutiny, and all feedback has been shown to Japan who have met many of the requests in the new 2010 edition. It’s the return of the king.”

PES 2010 will be released for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on October 23rd. PS2 and PSP versions will follow on November 6th, with a Wii version out on November 20th.
The cover stars for this year’s title are Liverpool’s Fernando Torres and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.
MCV expects the game will benefit from Konami’s biggest marketing spend of the year.

PES 2010 Wii
wii version all day evolved point precision controls wow and much more detailed players loads more movements ect much improved graphics/physics plus a broadcast feel at 60fps
less arcady, more realism??!!
i hope they really dont make the game like fifa. i want the gameplay to be the same as the old pes games. its what made us love pes so much more than the fifa series. i just hope they dont change the gameplay too much like they did with pes 09 and thats why i didnt buy it. everything else seems fine though. gameplay is pes' strong point and they need to be careful messing with it too much
PES :(
I was such a PES fanboy, but oh my god have they done bugger all with the game over the last 4 years. I play Fifa loads now and love it. Do hope they bring the series back though.
PES... Simulation???
"PES 2010 sees a real return to the simulation roots of the series"
The game where the slowest defenders could catch the fastest strikers. Where the smallest AI players could out-muscle the biggest human controlled players. Where you are held away from a throw in by a mysterious invisible wall. Where human controlled players conveniently stumble to let the AI take the ball. Where you can never see the opposition stats, to show that they are never affected by fatigue.
None of those are features you would expect to see in a simulation, but all of those are what you will see in any PES game. Until they remove the non-simulation aspects, they will never be a simulation. They just happened to be "less" arcadey than Fifa (up until Fifa '08 that is), that doesn't make a game a sim, it simply makes it "less arcadey".
I would think the only chance they have of winning back people who switched to Fifa, is for EA to really mess up a future Fifa, and to be honest, that doesn't look likely at this moment in time. Other than that, they will have to add a unique, killer feature, I think this years killer feature is the set piece editior that Fifa has introduced. The next big killer feature is probably going to be interruption free play, where you never see a black screen during a game, as everything just continues as it would on TV. EA have already mentioned "continuous play" for Fifa 10, but not much seems to be known about what it actually entails.
It seems like EA have got a team in place who are taking the game in the right direction, and whilst Konami finally seem to be moving onto a similar path, they are now playing the catch-up game that EA had done for so long.
The only thing we can be sure of, is that the "computerised" game of Football, is taking massive leaps forward thanks to healthy competition. Which can't be a bad thing as far as the gamers are concerned really.
Last chance saloon for me
I have been a PES fan since International super star soccer on the SNES but I have to admit that the last two versions have been dissapointing.
Really hope that PES2010 does the business or I might be tempted to (can't write it down.....no Fif......no!!!)
Killer Feature
@ LeeC
The "Killer Feature to which you refer was originally found in a 1992 game on the humble Amiga 500 called John Barnes European Soccer.
Sorry PES
Tbh I think most people have already converted to Fifa from PES due to the last 2 lackluster PES games and Konami knows it.
They're trying to win back there old fans with the old "gameplay" argument which is BS, as Fifa 09 has amazing gameplay, which will only be improved in the 2010 version.
Even if Konami do improve the gameplay, I can't see myself going back to PES with the unlicensed teams/stadiums/kits/BS commentators/shite online play etc. . etc. . . the list goes on.
I reckon Fifa 10 will outsell PES 3:1 this year.
All credit to EA, they've really come on with FIFA in the last few years.
It's never too late...
Features aside, for me its all about the game on the pitch and I still don't feel it with FIFA, despite how far they've come with their gameplay and how TERRIBLE the last 2 PES releases were. Konami do deserve a kick in the butt and agreed it will only be better for football games moving forward. And whoever was in charge of not boosting the Konami PES team size sooner needs a good smack upside the head!!!
PES2010
Why don't u create a game editable like PES6???????? U'r going down, PES6 was fantastic and after too many changes in PES2008 u lose many customers that passed to Fifa, hope we'll be back in game! Ciao
