Sony expects sales boost and huge consumer interest
Sony has predicted that its latest Gran Turismo title will single-handedly give a significant boost to hardware sales of PSPgo and PSP 3000 – and that it is expecting “huge” consumer interest in the game.
Gran Turismo PSP is released on October 1st, the day Sony’s latest handheld hardware, the digital-only PSPgo, is launched. A boxed version of the game will be backed by a “hefty” marketing campaign from Sony.
“As one of the most well loved PlayStation franchises ever, GT on PSP is gearing up to be a big hit,” said Sony UK product manager Claire Backhouse.
“We expect it to be a real hardware shifter, coming out the same time as PSPgo on both the new console and the original PSP 3000.”
The title, which was unveiled at E3 in July, will feature over 800 cars from the world’s biggest manufacturers and 30 tracks – as well as allowing player-to-player trading via wi-fi.

“I think consumer interest and demand for this game is going to be huge, and awareness will be high due to our hefty marketing campaign,” added Backhouse.
“The physics and gameplay are just superb as well – it’s a beautiful looking game.”
Sony will back the title with an above-the-line campaign, featuring a TV commercial that shows off gameplay and both the PSP3000 and PSPgo.
“This will also be bolstered with other, potentially outdoor, marketing and a online and press campaign, as well as extensive PR,” added Backhouse.

Quality over quantity doesn't always win.
Every video I have seen has always shown just 4 cars in a race. As nice as it looks, how can anyone consider racing against just 3 opponent cars racing?
Even Gran Turismo on the PS1 had 6 cars. Admittedly it didn't look as good but racing isn't just about pretty replays, it's about racing.
It just seems another case of a weak production team, that has allowed the concept of a "game" to get away from them in favour of a "visual experience". It's all too common these days with eye-candy being more prominent than gameplay.
FM3 is boasting 10x the number of polygons, yet only has the same number of cars in a race. So why didn't someone say, "hold on, if we make the cars 5x as detailed, we can have double the number of cars and improve the racing experience". Yes the cars look amazing in the replays, but during the race, you either see the front or the back of them for the majority of the time, so what's the point?
Even the latest videos of GT5 are showing 10 cars on track where there used to be 16. No doubt this is to cater for the 1080p @ 60fps rendering. But again, I am sure racing enthusiasts would prefer the original 16 cars of GT5P, and proper grid starts @ 30fps (or even 720p @ 60fps) in preference.
Replays are great to show your mates a couple of times, but the meat and bones of the game is the gameplay.
Best racing ever on a Portable
This is easily going to be the best most racing game ever to hit a portable. Can't wait to get this on PSP. It's been a long wait for this one.
Well it would have been..........BUT
Well I was all up for it....but here is my problem. I wanted a PSP Go but think it is crazy for it to cost $249 when their PS3 Slim cost just $299. Then I heard that you would get Gran Turismo free if you purchased the Go during the initial release week. Again, I was excited. Then I realized that is only in the UK and the US promotional launch game was a lite version of Rock Band unplugged which I could care less about. Then, to make matters worse, they go and announce a limited PSP 3000 bundle with GT included. Why not make a special silver PSP Go bundle? Who is in charge of Sony's marketing? Just rediculous. So now a customer who was willing to shell out the $249 bones for the Go to get GT for free is left frustrated and unsure if I even want to bother.
... *cough*
I look forward to downloading it! =)
