How many of these were new customers and how many were people buying again? I must admit that I could almost be tempted by the PS3 slim but only for the simple fact that I couldn't have fitted the fat old boy under my TV. But again, the games I want are on both platforms and Xbox is just cheaper. And all these people with their doomsday stories of RROD make it sound worse than it is. I've never RROD'd in nearly 3 years!

our sales was a big mixture really, we had alot of people trading in 80gigs and buying the slim, we also have had alot of elites traded in for the slim, i would say sales were a mix of new and current sony customers

I wonder what the actual numbers were as it all sounds good 999% increase from the week before as there were hardly any PS3 sales the week before the PS3 Slim launch. Wii price cut will slow the brakes down on this train!!

Impressive. But then again I guess it depends on how well they were selling the week before.
Say if Sony only sold one PS3 the week before (I know they didn't) - then this week they would have only sold what 999 units?
If that trend of sales increase maintains or keeps getting bigger, then that's a good thing for Sony.
But if the increase is only for a week or so, then really it won't put much of a dent in the Wii or 360's steady sales figures.

I'm honestly hoping more for the latter though. I love my 360.

There was loads of the old ones on works for sale board stating they were getting the new one! I might buy the old one as prefer it! I have a 360 but there is a few games I wanna play

We sold a hell of a lot of slims this week, more consoles than we did in the first month of the original PS3 launch I reckon. Most of our customers, I would say were new customers. Only about 25% of our sales were people trading in old PS3 or 360's.

What is it with this slim nonsense? If it fits in your pocket, then slim is great, but from what I have seen, you won't fit this PS3 in your pocket, no matter how slim it is, so what's the point?

Is it faster? Does it have a faster BR drive? Have they put back in all the things they have taken out? Has it got 2 HDMI ports now? Or is it just something smaller and cheaper that they can charge almost the same price for... like they did with the PS2?

If the answer to all that is no, then does this mean that people are buying the PS3 "because it's slim" and that's it? Has console ownership adopted the same vanity levels, as a bunch of girls getting ready for a Saturday night out? Or is the fact that it isn't quite so easy to spot on a shelf the attracting factor?

I'd love to know what the appeal is, I really would.

Who gives a damn why people are buying it... if it rejuvenates the hardware market, brings more people into our stores and gives the Xbox a bit of much needed competition to keep m-soft on their toes, I would have thought most traders would be happy... unless you are not a trader?

Just thought I would point out that 999% doesn't increase sales from 1 to 999... 100% means increasing from 1 to 2 units, so surely the increase is from 1 to 10 (10 times increase).

Either way it still outsold every other format by 3:1 so it's well done Sony, however I think consumers have been waiting so long for a price drop that any discount would have prompted a sales increase.

After seeing a PS3 slim in the local blockbusters I wasn't that impressed. Its not really *that* much smaller than a regular PS3 and frankly doesn't look as nice. Unless I got a serious trade in value of a regular PS3 for a slim I'd feel mugged off. It is a bit smaller, uses a bit less power, has a larger capacity drive and comes with a dual shock. For an upgrade, personally no. I think until my PS3 buys the farm, I'll stick with that.

For a first time buy or replacing a turd-ed PS3 maybe, but I guess the standard PS3 behemoth 2nd hand will be rather cheep now.

Got to agree with Chris the first poster about how many were buying again, Ive got Two PS3's, but I wouldnt buy the slim version doesnt offer anything different apart frm being 20% smaller.
Now if I could put the PS3 in the palm of my hand and chuck it about I might have considered buying that version.

Personally I prefer the look of the fat ps3 with its spiderman type writing and more of a glossy look. The size does not matter. The fact is that fat ps3's are €50.00 cheaper with an 80 gb hard drive. But the slim ps3 250gb hard drive is well worth the extra 50 bucks. However, i'll not be trading in mine because i never tend to use much of the hard drive and the 80gb is fine. ALSO, THERE IS NO OPTION FOR PS3 SLIM OWNERS TO INSTALL A SECOND OPERATING SYSTEM ON THEIR DRIVE!
