PS3 leads hardware charts race

First time Sony’s machine has outsold all console rivals since January 2008

Sony’s impressive sales leap this week following the launch of the PS3 Slim on September 1st has seen the console top the UK hardware sales charts for the first time since January 2008.

PS3 software sales enjoyed a notable boom thanks to the increased hardware performance, up 17 per cent in unit terms week-on-week – though they still lag behind software sales on both Xbox 360 and Wii.

In value terms PS3 software climbed five per cent compared to the week before, though again, Xbox 360 remains the most valuable software market in the UK.

In reality, sales of PS3 this week were 11x greater than the week before. “Obviously people have been waiting for PS3 Slim,” ChartTrack added. Sales of Xbox 360 were up 29 per cent in the same period.

This will be a temporary short term blip, while the people who have waited for the price cut and slim PS3 buy it on initial release. Trust me, the hardware sales will decline, just like a few of the PS3 games go high in the charts on initial release, and Wii games then overtake them in the long run.

why would you post this without the data to show us? If you all are taking this bit of info on credit without the numbers to back it your idiots.
When sony won the format war I went out and bought Sony stock... a lot of it. I bought it at around $50 and it went down to $15.... until I hear concrete numbers and a jump in my stock you can take your 3 years too late good news to someone who cares.

We'd love to reveal the numbers to you - they're certainly interesting – but sadly we're not allowed. This is always the case with UK sales numbers. The only usable numbers are those released by the platform holders themselves.

You said 11x for PS3 and 29% for Xbox, as clearly it doen't look as bad for your buddies in redmond/reading.

Why not be honest for once and say 1100% and 29%.

The way Microsoft has bought the gaming media this generation sickens me to the core.

what a good piece by mark, respec to you, i love sony to the core, stik with sony, i left them half way into the ps2 era, for an xbox1,

big mistake, hardly any games i wanted for it, exept for ssx

then within a year or 2, literallly, (xbox 1 lasted 4 years total) they brought out 360, i felt let down, i wasnt going to buy a new console after only just getting to grips with this,..

should have stuck with my old ps2, the graphics improved vastly over its lifespan and all my old games and accessories would have still been used, adding more value. even byng' a new ps2, would have added more value, because of this point.

xbox wil have a new sku soon, maybe natal, maybe whatever,

one things for sure though, if your just about to buy an xbox,
do yo feel there is value there..? ,lasting value

i wish i had my ps2. baby. peace.

People please calm down and grab a sense of dignity. As with any price drop with any system sales are expected to rise. It's almost common knowledge. To the guys who supposedly bought stock in Sony, that's complete garbage. I doubt you were able to buy in shares with just 50 dollars. For you to be a 1% share holder it look to be around $110.00. Please stop spouting nonsense.

i fond it funny that if any other platform other than the sony one had made this sales increase it would have been a pat on the back all around.

but because its a sony succsess story it's a case of saying "its a blip" we forgetting that we are heading into the xmas season the blip is the people upgrading or changing. again we have had a mixed bunch of peeps tradiong in old xbox's and chunky ps3's its what happens its the nature of the buissness. but its time to give sony credit for somthing. and this is it.

now saying that everyone get ready to flame them for the next bad idea. the PSPgo at the pricepoint of 229... hard work undone there sony. LOL

im shocked to learn that the new elites have removed the HDMI lead. how much is the officaial microsoft one that you used to get with it gonna cost us? about £30 maybe???
