MCV can reveal how many units of the slimmed down PS3 redesign were sold in its first week
The PS3 Slim sold 40,000 units in its first week of release in the UK, MCV can reveal.
It was reported earlier this week that sales of PS3 climbed 999 per cent week-on-week following the launch of the new model. However, no sales figures were released at the time.
The number was arrived at by looking at week one sales for the PS2 Slim, which the BBC reported to be 50,000 in the UK. Sony said last week that week one sales of the PS3 Slim were 20 per cent behind that number – hence, 40,000 is the figure for week one sales of the PS3 Slim.
Sony declined to comment on the news, though UK sales director Mark Howsen did tell MCV on Monday that SCE is “extremely pleased” with the console’s start in the UK.
The achievement means that the UK just outpaced the French debut of the machine, though lagged some way behind the barnstorming Japanese launch.

Great Sales!
These sales figures and fantastic! I suspect the inflation in Sales is due to the new console and price cut but still its outsold the xbox and wii! Cant wait to see how well it sells next week with the new xbox price cut!

At least we now know that Sony sold 4000 PS3 fats the week before the Slim release.
Why all the secrecy? 4000 is quite good, given that everyone knew the slim would be realeased the following week.

I figure not everyone will have known, which is why they still sold 4,000.
The other week I went into a big highstreet retailer and enquired about price of the PS3 and was told it's £XXX but I should wait cos the Slim version is out soon. So credit to them for being honest.

i went into morrisons and they still have the ps3 consoles up at 299.99
and they had no idea about a slim or price cut,

Game manager liar
I went in to Game 2 weeks ago on Oxford Street and the manager blatently lied and said he didnt know why he wasnt getting the (fat) PS3 stock from Sony, I suggested it was the slim and he started waffling about supply chain issues but if i came in a few days hed have one for me.. luckily the assistant was less of a twat and agreed with me about the slim.
