SingStar Beatles confirmed

Doubters silenced as SingStar-branded SKU is officially announced for PS3

A SingStar-branded PS3 SKU of EA’s The Beatles game, as exclusively revealed by MCV last month, has officially been confirmed for retail.

MTV itself moved to rubbish the claims just 24 hours after MCV broke the shock news, but now Kotaku has got the first pics of the upcoming PS3 SKU.

The Beatles: Rockband: SingStar includes a copy of the game and two wired PS3 microphones of the same sort that come with Sony’s own SingStar series. The included game is compatible with both the standard Rock Band drums and guitar, both of which are available separately.

The game will be released later this month, with Kotaku speculating that it will be a PAL only release.

It says it will be compatible with rock band drums guitar?
Is that right? And do other singstar games allow instruments?

It's the full Beatles: Rock Band game, just packaged with a couple of singstar mikles. Not a Singstar game at all.

This is Rock Band: Beatles with Singstar mics, not a Singstar game and you guys sound like Bill O'Reilly trying to spin this into you being right when you were obviously wrong.

You're so right! Betwixt jibes about non-Murdoch-owned media and red-faced diatribes on Obama's universal healthcare plans, Fox News' stalwart Bill O'Reilly is OBSESSED with the arguable semantics of UK video games trade sites. It's on his Wikipedia and everything.

From the original article: 'In great news for the High Street, MCV understands that SingStar: The Beatles Rock Band will effectively be an instrument-free version of The Beatles: Rock Band, and will be exclusively released on PlayStation 3.'

After initial doubt, you've kind of got to give it to MCV. Back to N4G with you.

original article

The heavy, HEAVY implication in the original article was that it was a completely separate SKU of the game, featuring only vocals and no playable instrument tracks at all. To which people cried fowl, and rightly so. MCV has since watered down the original article, to seem less wrong, but it still smells off. They used words like "double treat", "instrument free", "exclusivly released for PS3", and "within days" of hte other title. For what it's worth, the Beatles game is sold stand alone on all the other platforms too, and work's with the first party branded microphones on those platforms as well. If all that MCV was implying was that this was a version of the same game packaged with different instruments, they sure missed the mark with their original article. What would be the point of saying that it was PS3 exclusive and had a separate release date unless you were implying it was a different game? Or, is the fact that the Beatles game is bundled with different hardware news? Because if so they missed the much bigger news that you could buy the whole Rock Band 2 bundle and get the Beatles for free on top of that. No matter how you slice it MCV missed the mark with this one and claiming afterwards they were were the first to get it right is quite a load.
