Next Gears Of War on next gen consoles?

Epic president says next Gears may not appear on current platforms

Epic Games president Michael Capps hinted that the next instalment in the highly popular Gears Of War series may not appear until the next generation of consoles arrives.

Speaking at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, he explained that the developer has been working on Unreal Engine 4.

He later told Eurogamer that, if the next Gears were to be based on this engine, it wouldn’t be released on the current generation of consoles.

“If we ship a game in the next few years, it’ll be Unreal Engine 3,” he said. “If we ship a game on next [generation] consoles, it will likely be Unreal Engine 4.”

What is interesting about these comments is that he says Gears may not appear on current platforms. Could this mean that Gears of War 3 could come to the PlayStation?

Microsoft had a 2 game deal with EPIC for the Gears franchise, it's perfectly possible that the next instalment (Gears 3) will be a multi-console game.

Sorry haha, but you are incorrect - Microsoft does not own the rights to Gears of War as they now do with Halo.
As Henry Ford's Faster Horse has said, MS only had an exclusive publishing deal for the first two games. It is possible that MS may get an exclusive with the third game, but no deals have been done yet.

Microsoft wouldn't be the company they are to not have a plan that would see one of the biggest titles slip onto other platforms - they would have learned that lesson from Sony with the PS3. You can bet that they either own the rights to Gears or have an exclusive deal with this franchise.

It really is not even worth worrying about, by the sounds of the article above there are not really any plans on releaseing a further title, despite the date of 2010 originally being given for GOW3. Who knows what we will be playing or what advancements will be made on the current console in a 2 year window - Impossible to say
